Many people in our lovely little town are doing the right things financially – working hard, saving where they can – yet still feel unsure whether they’re making the most of their money, planning effectively for the future, or protecting what matters most.

That uncertainty is completely understandable. Financial decisions today are rarely straightforward. We’re living longer, juggling competing priorities, and trying to plan ahead in a world that doesn’t always feel predictable. Most of the time, money isn’t something we worry about day to day. It tends to come into sharper focus during life’s changes - retirement, a new business, the loss of a loved one, or when things don’t quite go to plan.
By way of introduction, I live just down the road in Henley, and before moving into financial services and Amber River Premier, I spent several years as a full‑time rower at Leander Club, racing both domestically and internationally. Life as a rower meant early mornings on the river, training in all weathers, and being surrounded by some incredibly dedicated women. It also gave me a strong connection to this stretch of the Thames, which makes working with clients in Marlow and the surrounding area feel very much like home.

Amber River Premier has been part of the local financial planning landscape since 1999, when the firm was founded by Trevor Jackson. Today, we are proud to continue that legacy as Chartered Financial Advisers, helping individuals and families make confident, informed decisions about their finances at every stage of life.
Financial education isn’t something most of us are taught, and with so many competing priorities, it’s easy to put important decisions off or feel uncertain about whether the right steps are being taken. Having a clear framework and access to professional guidance can make all the difference in turning good intentions into confident, long‑term planning.
Good financial planning isn’t about reacting to headlines or chasing quick wins. It’s about understanding your goals, making informed choices, and sticking to a plan that gives you confidence over the long term. Future articles will focus on the financial decisions people commonly face, and how to approach them with a bit more clarity.
There won’t be any jargon, scare stories, or quick fixes. Instead, these articles will focus on helping you feel more confident about your financial choices and better informed about your options, whether you’re at the beginning of your financial journey, approaching retirement, or managing your finances in later life.
