Marlow Beauty Junkie's Blog: Biocellulose masks.Brilliant? Beneficial?
With Halloween edging closer and closer, there will be many a mask on show. So, me being me and always a fan of linking things together (however obscure and convoluted that may be), let's talk masks... in particular, the ever-popular biocellulose mask. Less scary and intimidating than some of the witches, ghouls, and ghost masks prepping for their Halloween reveal, there are some steep price tags on the market that can give you an equal scare!
Let's debunk it... What is it? How does it work? Is it worth the hype? And which ones, if any, give the optimal results?
Biocellulose masks aren't a new contraption, but they are definitely enjoying their time in the limelight. They are a great addition to your fortnightly skincare sesh (or as we call it, a PP aka Proper Pamper). They also work magically after medical procedures such as peels or microneedling. Pair one with LED, and you're onto a win.
This slinky sheet mask tends to fit and grip to the contours of your face like a second skin, offering full facial coverage. The nanostructure, resembling a mesh or web, holds a substantial amount of serum (up to 100 times its dry weight). As a result, it provides a deeper penetration of hydration, which helps plump out those ultra-irritating fine lines and wrinkles (yay!). Sounding pretty good so far, but as they say, actions speak louder than words.
Needless to say, this has absolutely been "bought and tried" in my household.
We chose a range from high-profile, more expensive brands through to more affordable ones. First up, 111Skin, which at £105 for a box of 5 is at the higher end of the budget. Then my good old faithful Medik8 at £70 for a box of 6. SkinCeuticals is £18 for one, which is great if you just want a single mask to go. Finally, the Korean skincare brand Anua is very budget-friendly at £16 for a box of 4.

Interestingly, my 16-year-old daughter—who has teenage skin and typical hormonal flare-ups—really got on well with the lightweight mask by Anua. The serum was the perfect consistency for her skin and smelt divine. The glow was undeniable too!
My skin, however, as a woman in her mid-30s, needs something a little more substantial and targeted. The Medik8 Biocellulose mask was the noticeable winner in my mind. With the pouch containing enough leftover serum to massage into your neck and décolletage, it feels like very good value for money. Naturally, I paired mine with my Dr. Dennis Gross LED mask, which promotes even deeper product penetration.
All in all, I highly recommend incorporating these into your bimonthly PP. Plus, it forces you to switch off for 10 minutes, focus on your breathing, and reach an inner calm... which we all need.
I'd love to know what you'd like tried and tested next or any tips and tricks?
Until next time..
